al-yene is a visual artist from the Sakha Republic, with ancestral ties to both the Kolyma region and Tuymaada Valley. Raised in Zyryanka and Yakutsk, her practice engages with the continuation of storywork, memory, and knowledge that persist despite ruptures caused by state-controlled narratives. Drawing on family histories, land-based relations, and archival materials, she reflects on how Indigenous identities and memories are shaped, silenced, and reclaimed — connecting the intimate to the political. Her work is attentive to gaps and absences within the cultural memory of the Sakha people and related northern communities.
